Description

Description: French historian Henri Martin (1810-1883) discusses different publishing houses in this 1877 letter. He also mentions Mary Louise Booth, an American translator who had previously published a very good translation of his extensive 13-volume work, Histoire de France.

Martin was a celebrated historian in his own time but has been overshadowed today by his contemporary, Jules Michelet. The Avenue Henri-Martin in Paris is named after him.

Three pages written in French on a folded piece of "HM" blind-stamped stationery that measures 5 1/4" x 8 1/8". Item #A00511.

Condition: Several fold lines, overall soil (most heavily on recto), otherwise good condition.
