Description: This part-printed paper document appoints Adam Roof as Lieutenant “in the Regiment of Militia in the county of Montgomery.” It is signed lower right: “Geo. Clinton”, as governor of New York. The Deputy Secretary of State, Archibald McIntyre, has signed lower left.

George Clinton (1739-1812) was the first governor of New York from 1777 to 1795 and again from 1801 to 1804. He also served as Vice President in Thomas Jefferson’s administration, as well as, James Madison’s first term as President.

Condition: Fold lines, otherwise clean and bright. Not examined out of frame, but clearly not laid down.
