This portrait was engraved by George Vertue after a painting by Johannes Kerseboom and appeared in Thomas Birch’s The Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain.
Robert Boyle (1627-1691), philosopher, chemist, physicist and inventor, is generally regarded as the first modern chemist. His Sceptical Chymist is considered a cornerstone work in the field of chemistry.
