Description
Description: In this brief typed letter signed, Roosevelt writes: “My dear Mr. Scollard: I wish to send you this line of acknowledgment for your poem on Quentin. I value it very highly. Faithfully yours, Theodore Roosevelt.”
The letter is written on an 11″ x 8 1/2″ sheet of “The Kansas City Star” stationery, dated September 28, 1918, and addressed to Clinton Scollard of the “New York Evening Sun”. Item #A02011
Quentin was shot down in aerial combat over France at the age of twenty during the Second Battle of Marne (July 14, 1918). Roosevelt never recovered from this loss and died within six months (January 5, 1919).
Condition: Mailing fold lines, a few spots at right edge, generally very good. Floated within a mat and framed to: 20 1/2″ x 17 1/2″ (not examined out of frame but clearly not laid down). Verso has labels from Donald Heald Fine Art and Kenneth Rendell Autographs.
