Description
Description: This light-hearted image features several adults lounging in a living room being entertained by a youngster doing a handstand. Lower margin is signed in graphite “Pop Hart” and also states: “Child with Stage Ambitions” and “soft gr[ound etching] and aquatint”.
Plate mark measures: 4 3/8″ x 7 7/8″ on an unevenly trimmed 5 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ sheet. Item #PR00673
George Overbury (Pop) Hart (1868-1933), painter, watercolorist, and printmaker, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Academie Julian in Paris. He had a close association with Edward Hopper, Arthur B. Davies and Walt Kuhn through the Fort Lee, New Jersey artist’s colony. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society, New York Watercolor Club, Brooklyn Society of Etchers, Salons of America, etc.
Condition: Two hinging tabs at recto top, otherwise good condition. Housed in an old, slightly soiled mat.
