Description

Description: This half-tone portrait image of the operatic tenor is neatly signed and inscribed by him: “To Mr. George Hoffmann With my sincere greetings Mario Chamlee”. In the waist-up portrait, Chamlee stands with his hands tucked into his coat pockets, elaborately-tied silk cravat peeking out of the collar. He looks off to his left, hair slightly tousled, moustache curled just so. Beneath the image are the typed words: “Mario Chamlee” and “(La Boheme)”.

Overall: 5 3/4″ x 3 3/4″. Item #A01541

Mario Chamlee was discovered by Antonio Scotti and sang in opera houses all over the world. He inherited many of Enrico Caruso’s roles at the Metropolitan Opera after the latter’s death in 1921.

Condition: A spot at the upper left corner blank margin, otherwise very good condition with a large signature.
