Description

Description: We offer a scarce seven line manuscript [plus pencil corrections/additions] page from Muir’s book The Mountains of California. These lines in slightly altered form appear in chapter 8 under the sub-heading of "Yellow, or Silver Pine". The working manuscript page is unsigned and undated, though the book was published in 1894.

This 5 1/2" x 8" sheet is tipped into the beginning of volume one of the Sierra Edition of The Writings of John Muir. We only have the first three volumes of the ten volume set. The books are 8vo, 1/2 leather with marbled boards.

John Muir (1838-1914) was a Scottish-American naturalist and author who had a major impact on the preservation of wilderness areas in the U.S. and the creation of national parks. He co-founded the Sierra Club with Henry Senger. Item #A00959.

Condition: Manuscript has a strip of old archival tape reinforcement at the right edge, otherwise very good. The books have some wear at extremities, especially the foot of two spines, interior generally very good.
