Description: This original cabinet card photograph shows the immense height of Louis Moilanen (1886-1913), the Finnish-born giant. At the age of 4, he and his family emigrated from Finland and settled in the town of Hancock, Michigan. Moilanen holds the record for being Michigan’s tallest man. In the photograph, a uniformed Moilanen stands with his arm held out at his side, a shorter man stands underneath it, looking up at Moilanen.
A stamped inscription on the verso reads: “Major Louis Moilanan [sic] Born in Kausamo, Finland, aged 19 years, weighs 460 lbs. and is 8 feet, 2 inches tall. Now making my first American Tour with Ringling Bros. World’s Greatest Shows. The Largest Man on Earth.”
