Description
Description: Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000) was the first Black woman poet to win the Pulitzer prize for poetry (Annie Allen, 1950). She wrote over 20 books, including prose. She also served as the Illinois poet laureate for 32 years.
Brooks signs her name in full after the sentiment, “For Ted Hallman / Sincerely / Gwendolyn Brooks,” on a 3” x 4 ⅜” card. Accompanied by a 7” x 5” digital photograph of a smiling Brooks, most likely after a 1950’s image.
