Description: This original CDV vignetted image by photographers Churchill & Denison of Albany, NY features a chest-up portrait of Albany, NY industrialist and mayor Erastus Corning (1794-1872).

Erastus Corning was involved in the iron industry, banking, railroads (Utica & Schenectady, NY Central, etc.), as well as, politics. He was mayor of Albany, NY (1834-1837) and a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York (1857-1859 and 1861-1863).

Photograph is on a 4″ x 2 3/8″ ruled mount. Verso bears the backmark of Churchill & Denison and is numbered 12530. There is also an inked “Erastus Corning” at the top (similar to Corning’s signature, but we believe it is just a period identification) and a pencilled “Joel Munsell set.” at the bottom. Condition: Light soil at bottom blank margin of mount, otherwise good condition.
