Description: These two late 19 c. “Enumerator’s Blotters” list the residents of the first election district in the town of Catherine, Schuyler County, New York. The enumerator’s are instructed to “give only the color of colored inhabitants, by the letter ‘C’; blank lines will designate all whites”. Also noted are occupations, including: physician, laborer, merchant, teamster, blacksmith, minister and nurse. Resident status is listed as “alien” or “citizen.” The eleven new immigrants are English, Hungarian, Italian, and Scottish.
The ruled “Enumerator’s Blotters” or ledgers have 7 vertical columns, 30 individuals per page, are approximately 14” x 9” and have brown somewhat stiff wraps. There are 29 pages with entries. Item #AM00346
Condition: Both covers are dampstained and several interior pages are impacted. One wrap has a 6” split along the spine. Generally in good condition with all writing clear and legible.
