Description: This original Grand Tour albumen photograph is signed in the negative: “244. Porte de Jaffa à Jérusalem Bonfils”.

The image shows the historic Ottoman gate built in 1538 which is one of the seven main open gates of the Old City of Jerusalem. A sign for “Cook’s Tourist Office” directs visitors inside Jaffa Gate with a painted hand pointing toward the arched entrance. Numerous people, donkeys, and camels stand in front of the great stone edifice or are in the act of moving through the gate into the city.

Condition: Corners of mount are lightly bumped, overall very good condition with very good resolution and contrast
