Description: This wonderful original 18th century copperplate engraving shows a rather impromptu bit of dentistry. A frock-coated “dentist” works on a tooth extraction from a patient sitting on a plank supported by sawhorses. A monkey trying on a hat watches from a chair in the background. The print is by Giovanni Volpato after Francesco Maggiotto. It was published by Nicolo Cavalli, c. 1760-1770.

Condition: Light scattered foxing mostly visible in blank margins, two pinholes just below the engraving. Generally very good condition.
