Description: We offer a signed drawing by the Dutch landscape artist Barend Cornelis Koekkoek. Masterfully rendered in black chalk on handmade laid paper, 11”x 8 ¾”, and signed at the lower left “B. C. Koekkoek, Cleve.” At the lower right the artist likely inscribed the date: “PP 1833”.
Framed under glass showing the full margins of the paper, in a finished corner gold frame, 23 5/8” x 19 5/8”.
This study of bare trees reveals the foundations of his excellent wooded landscapes that emphasize the glory and majesty of the natural world. Koekkoek (1803-1862) was a Dutch landscape artist known for his intensive landscapes. He was known as the “Prince of Landscape Painting” and received many awards and commissions from nobility.
