Description

Description: We offer a signed painting on paper by Saul Weinstock of a surreal and disorienting still life arrangement. A white mask with a mopish expression hangs mysteriously on a houseplant over a collection of draped textiles, books and abstracted objects. The effect, emphasized by Weinstock’s mark making, is playfully sinister. It is painted in mixed media on heavy paper mounted to cardboard that measures 11” x 14”. It is signed three times, twice in the upper left corner and once faintly along the left margin. It is housed in a simple dark wood frame with the outside dimensions of 16″ x 20″. The piece retains an original business card from the artist affixed to the back. Item #FA00338.

Saul Weinstock was active in New York City in the 1950’s and 60’s. He exhibited a watercolor painting titled “Variations on a Still Life” at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1952.

Condition: There is a slight bow to the board, as expected with a water base media used on paper, otherwise good condition with vibrant color.
