Description: The signature of American illustrator Arthur Burdett Frost (1851-1928) has been affixed to this brief note by his son, John Frost. The stationery is imprinted with the header of a noted autograph collector: “The Autograph Collection of Howes Norris, Jr.” Howes Norris Jr. was described in an April 17, 1946 article in the St. Petersburg Times, as the “Granddaddy of all the autograph fiends.” His extensive autograph collection is now part of the Delaware Art Museum’s Helen Farr Sloan Library & Archives. John Frost cheekily sends Norris his father’s clipped signature with the note, “My dear Mr. Norris, As I do not find my Father’s autograph included in your list I am sending you one, which for your collection will be of far greater interest than my own.”
B. Frost is considered one of the great illustrators in the “Golden Age of American Illustration”. He illustrated over 90 books, most memorably Joel Chandler Harris’ series of Uncle Remus books.
7” x 4 ½”. Item #A01165.
Condition: Fold line, mounting remnants on verso, A. B. Frost’s signature is neat and large on a clipped piece of paper which measures: 3/4″ x 3 1/2″. Overall very good condition.
