Description: This well-executed New Hampshire oil on board features a rocky stream passing through the woods with the mountains subtly creating a backdrop. It is signed “B. Champney” lower right and marked on the verso of the board: “Autumn Woods, White Mtns. B. Champney”.

Benjamin Champney (1817-1907) brought the Hudson River School Artists’ sensibilities to the mountains of New Hampshire. He helped to found the Boston Art Club in 1854 and was widely exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Boston Athenaeum, American Art Union, etc.
Condition: Painting is in very good condition. Frame has minimal losses of gilding.
