Description: In this typed letter signed Sondheim states in part: “we have improved it a lot since you last saw it, especially the second act (two additional songs) so I hope you will be able to see it again.”
This comment no doubt refers to Sunday in the Park with George which opened off-Broadway in July of 1983 with only one act. The two act version premiered after twenty-two performances.
Letter is written on an 8″ x 6″ sheet of personal stationery imprinted “Stephen Sondheim” and dated May 1, 1984. Item #A02002
Stephen Sondheim (1930-2021) was a major figure in 20th century American musical theater. He wrote the music and lyrics for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Little Night Music, and a host of other successful musicals.
