Description: In this Jan. 3, 1976 autograph letter signed, Wengenroth writes in part: “It was with the greatest pleasure that I read your review of my book in the January issue of ‘American Artist’.”

Stow Wengenroth (1906-1978) is remembered mostly for his highly accomplished lithographs. He was a full member of the National Academy of Design, American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Prairie Printmakers and his works are in most major art institutions (Library of Congress, Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, etc.)

Fridolf Johnson (1905-1988) was a professional calligrapher who served as editor of the magazine “American Artist”. As an avid collector and designer of bookplates he authored the book “A Treasury of Bookplates from the Renaissance to the Present”.

ALS is written on a sheet of 10 1/4″ x 6 1/2″ personal stationery imprinted with Wengenroth’s name and address. Comes with the transmittal envelope addressed in his hand and redirected in another hand, and a copy of a letter Johnson wrote to Wengenroth a week later. Item #A01257
