Description: In this friendly typed letter signed Rockwell thanks a fan for his generosity and briefly mentions his Peace Corps illustrations for Look magazine. The 1966 letter reads in part: “Dear Hyman: You were more than generous to have sent us such a valuable antique and I am so sorry that it was broken when it arrived, but I felt that I had no alternative but to tell you. Please do not consider that you should replace the bowl as you have already been most gracious, and we truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. I am glad that you were pleased with the paintings in LOOK as the Peace Corps is a favorite subject with me.”
Typed on a 10 1/2″ x 7 1/4″ sheet of “Norman Rockwell Stockbridge Massachusetts” imprinted stationery and signed informally: “Norman”. Includes original transmittal envelope. Item #A01866
Beloved artist Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) is known for his paintings that reflect scenes of everyday American life and especially for his cover illustrations for The Saturday Evening Post.
The recipient of the letter, Hyman W. Sevits was a local history author from Upstate New York who wrote History of the Mohawk Valley: Gateway to the West 1614-1925.
