Description: American bass-baritone singer William Warfield (1920-2002) exuberantly signed this postcard advertising one of his concerts at Great Neck Senior High School Auditorium. The post card has a half-tone portrait of a smiling Warfield, as well as, a testimonial to Warfield’s talent as a singer. A circular cancellation stamp for Great Neck, NY on the verso of the postcard is dated March 14, 1956.

William Warfield appeared in numerous stage productions, Hollywood movies, and television programs. He was a prominent African American artist during the Civil Rights era, he represented the United States during foreign tours, taught at academic institutions, and earned numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award in 1984.

Condition: Mounting remnants on verso, ink from cancellation has bled through to recto, it appears someone has corrected the date of the concert by changing the “1” in “19” to a “2” in blue ink. Generally good condition with a large, clear signature.
