Description: This photographic portrait of the debonair Governor Thomas E. Dewey, is inscribed in the lower right margin: "To Isaac B. Mitchell With the Warm Regards of his old friend Thomas E. Dewey Dec. 14, 1954." The image, which measures 9 1/4" x 7 1/4", is copyrighted "1948 Greystone Studios" in the negative, overall 14" x 11". Item #A00853.
As Governor of New York from 1943-1954, Thomas E. Dewey (1902-1971) oversaw the creation of the State University system and the NYS Thruway. He was unsuccessful in two campaigns as the Republican candidate for President, the second of which was the famous "Dewey Defeats Truman" race of 1948.
Isaac Beardsley Mitchell (1888-1977) was a New York State Senator who served from 1939 to 1947.
Condition: Blank margins have several short creases, a few spots and a scrape, though the image area is in very good condition.
