Description: The author James Fugate thanks Mr. John P. Pitcherale for his appreciation of his first book, (Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel [1950]) and hopes that he will “feel the same for [his] second effort,” a short-story collection entitled “Derricks.” He also hopes that it will be possible for the two of them to meet someday. Autograph letter signed is written on a sheet of 11” x 9” ivory paper. The stamped transmittal envelope is included and addressed in Fugate’s hand to “Mr. John Pitcherale, McLean Hospital, Waverly, Mass.” Item #A02012
James Fugate aka James Barr (1922-1995) is the author of the classic work of gay writing, Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel, and was an activist in the gay rights movement. He was honorably discharged in 1952 when his identity as the author of Quatrefoil became public.
John (Giovanni) P. Pitcherale (1919?-1998) was a friend of The Boston Symphony Orchestra. He is also listed as one of the principal correspondents in The Papers of Eleanor Roosevelt.
