Description: This 2 1/2″ x 1 3/4″ card bears the original black ink signature of Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy, or Connie Mack (1862-1956), the American baseball player and manager. Mack was a catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates beginning in 1890 and served as player-manager from 1894-1896. He managed the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901 to 1950, winning nine pennants and five World Series. His tenure as the Athletics’ manager is the longest ever for a coach or manager in North American professional sports. Mack is remembered for his easygoing managing style and for his recruitment of players who were intelligent and disciplined. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
Verso of the card has Mack’s bio and is dated: “1950 B. E. Callahan.” The card is part of Callahan’s Hall of Fame series. Item #A01872
