Description: Mexican-American actor Ramon Novarro (1899-1968) sent this brief, friendly typed letter signed to a Mary Knowles which reads: “Dear Mary Knowles: I’ve just received your charming ‘prayer’. Many, many thanks. Every day in every way I’m getting better. God bless you.”

Typed on a 10 1/2″ x 7 1/4″ sheet of plain stationery. Includes original transmittal envelope postmarked: “January 19, 1941” from Los Angeles, CA. Item #A01828

Novarro began his career in silent films and later became a leading man and sex symbol in the 1920s and 30s. He struggled with alcoholism throughout his life due to his conflicting feelings about his homosexuality and his Roman Catholic faith. He died as a result of asphyxiation after two men pretending to be prostitutes robbed and beat him.

Condition: Mailing fold lines, otherwise very good with a large, strong signature.
