Description: Artist M. H. Herrin drew this pencil portrait of a sweetly grinning May Robson. This Australian American actress (1858-1942) had a nearly six decades-long career, beginning as a stage actress. She had success as a film star in the 1930s while she was in her 70s. This portrait is dated May 20th, 1939, during the height of her silver screen fame. Robson was the earliest-born person, and the first Australian, to be nominated for an Academy Award (for her leading role in Lady for a Day in 1933).
In a slightly shaky hand Robson has inscribed: “Best [???] to a real artist from May Robson” in bold black ink. Overall 11 3/4″ x 9 1/4″. Item #A01855
