Description: This urban architectural wood engraving is a proof on tissue paper, one of the 230 images Ward engraved for his 1937 graphic novel Vertigo.
It is inscribed and signed in graphite: “For Patty and Jeb Lynd Ward”.
The image measures 5″ x 3 1/2″ on a 6 3/4″ x 5″ sheet of tissue-thin Japan paper. Item #PR00604
Lynd Kendall Ward (1905-1985) artist, printmaker and novelist, is most known for his wood-engraved wordless books… precursors to today’s graphic novels. Vertigo was his sixth and last complete wordless novel.
Condition: Light rippling, two pieces of hinging tape at upper blank corners, otherwise very good.
