Description: In this wonderfully abstract graphite and watercolor drawing, Knaths pictures a stylized horse amidst a topsy turvy landscape with cart. It is stamped lower right: “Estate of Karl Knaths.” There is also a printed label affixed to the dust cover backing which indicates this was either in the collection or exhibited at the Everson Museum of Art (Syracuse, NY) with the title “Horse and Cart.”

Karl Knaths (1891-1971) spent most of his active painting career in Provincetown, MA. “His cubist aesthetic led him to create paintings that, while abstract, contained readily identifiable subjects” (Wikipedia). His works are in the collections of numerous major art institutions, including: Art Institute of Chicago, Huntington Library, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Whitney Museum, etc.
