Description: In this autograph note signed American artist Clara Taggart McChesney (1860-1928) wrote to her friend, Miss Octavia Benjamin of New York City: “The Exposition is very lovely, especially at night. How I wish you and your mother and father, and all my friends could see it.”
Clara McChesney began her artistic career in San Francisco, studying with Virgil Williams at the California School of Design, then in New York City with H. S. Mowbray and J. C. Beckwith. She exhibited at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, where she won a medal, the 1900 World’s Exposition in Paris, and the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
