Description: This well-detailed sculpture shows a full standing figure of the kaiser in dress uniform sporting medals on his left breast, a plumed hat in one hand and a sword in the other. Signed on the base: “A. Grath” and identified as “Kaiser Franz Joseph I.” Verso of base states: “Prasidium Des Reichsdeutschen Comite’s … 1911.”

Anton Grath (1881-1956), the Austrian sculptor and medalist, studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and with Carl Kundmann and Rudolf Marschall. A number of his works are in the collection of the Vienna Military History Museum.

Condition: Fine condition with a richly patinated surface.
