Description: American artist Joseph Pennell (1857-1926) wrote to Mr. Vertue of the venerable publishing house asking for permission to use the "Jacquemart" slide in an upcoming lecture for the Camera Club. He cites approvals by Harpers, Century, Graphic and Macmillan publishing companies attempting to be persuasive.

Pennell is remembered for publishing a biography of his friend James McNeill Whistler, for teaching at the Slade School of Art, and for his distinction as an etcher, lithographer, and illustrator.

Written on page one and three of a folded piece of 5 7/8" x 7 1/2" stationery imprinted: "14, Buckingham Street, Strand, W.C.". Item #A00498.

Condition: Several notations in pencil on the top left corner of the first page not affecting the text, otherwise in very good condition.
