Description: In this 1886 autograph letter signed, Millais writes: “Dear Sir, I am not in a position to undertake any more work just now. May I suggest the name of George Reid RSA. He is a most admirable painter. Yours faithfully, JE Millais. My price is a 1000 guineas for a half length.” George Reid (1841-1913) was a Scottish painter who was president of the Royal Scottish Academy from 1891 to 1902.
Written on one side of a 7″ x 4 3/8″ sheet of Millais’ stationery imprinted: “2. Palace Gate, Kensington.” Item #A01598
Sir John Everett Millais (1829-1896), the English painter and illustrator, was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. He was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1853 and became its president just before his death.
Condition: Mailing fold, overall foxing. Generally good condition with a large, clear signature.
