Description

Description: In this letter dated April 18th, 1880, Boughton writes: “The enclosed photo was only received this day & I should have attended to it before. The rendering of my picture by the photo is very false in many respects. The yellow of the grain field comes out so black in spots – that i think it would be well if the engraver would keep that portion much lighter. Otherwise it will do.”

Written on a 7″ x 4 3/8″ sheet of Bonchurch Hotel, Isle of Wight stationery. Item #A01626

He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1871 and became a Royal Academician in 1896.
