Description: In this autograph letter signed, Palmer writes in full: “By request of your Academy, I sent, many months since a bust of the White Captive for exhibition. May I ask you to direct the bust to be sent here to… Palmer’s Studio Albany, N.Y. and oblige — Very truly yours E. D. Palmer.”
Written on one side of an 8″ x 5″ sheet of ruled paper. Item #A01537
Erastus Dow Palmer (1817-1904), the neo-classical sculptor, mounted an exhibit of his “Palmer Marbles” at the National Academy of Design in 1856 which contributed to his rising prominence. His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on display in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol, etc. The White Captive is considered one of his major works.
Condition: Mailing fold lines, otherwise fine condition. Included is a reprint image of the bust referenced in the letter.
