Description: The French writer and photographer Maxime Du Camp (1822-1894) penned and signed this 1863 letter in which he mentions papers written by an unnamed person that had a “good enough subject” that merits some interest.

 

Maxime Du Camp studied photography under Gustave Le Gray, one of the more famous photographers of the nineteenth century. He traveled extensively, once in the company of Gustave Flaubert, and wrote about his travels. Du Camp also accompanied Garibaldi in his 1860 conquest of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. His travel books were among the earliest to be illustrated with photographs.

 

Written in French on two sides of a blue sheet of 8 ¼” x 5 ¼” stationery. Item #A00946.

Condition: Fold lines, otherwise in very good condition with a large, bold signature.
