Description: This 4″ x 6 3/4″ slip of paper bears a manuscript receipt for blankets for two Continental Army soldiers on August 27, 1777 .  The receipt reads: “East Windsor: Augst the 27 A.D. 1777 then Recived of Edward Chapman Gerrit[?] one of the select men of the town of East Windsor too blankts for too Continental Solders that are Inlisted Into my Compny for the terme of three years blankts prised at 2.10.0 Recived by me: George Hubbard Lieut. in Capt. Savage’s Co. Sherbornes Regt.”

George Hubbard (1739-1818) served as a lieutenant in the 2nd Connecticut infantry during the American Revolution. In 1777, his unit was reassigned into Colonel Henry Sherburne’s Additional Continental Regiment (Sherburne’s Battalion) under Captain Abijah Savage.

Captain Abijah Savage (1744-1825) was taken prisoner at Quebec and held for thirteen months and was then made Captain of Sherburne’s Continental Regiment.
