Size: 7 1/2″ x 5″. . Tan cloth over boards, two ferrotypes (tintypes) mounted to front and rear paste downs by the publisher, 200 pages plus 28 pages of ads. This is said to be the first book to contain images on a base material other than paper. The portraits were taken by the author and are captioned on their paper mats: “Non Reversed Ferrotype. Made on Phenix Plate Co’s Chocolate Tinted Egg Shell Plate. Scovill Manuf’g Co. Sole Agents” and “Sample Ferrotype, Made on John Dean & Co’s Adamantean Chocolate Tinted Egg Shell Plate. E. & H. T. Anthony & Co. Sole Agents.” Both portraits’ sitters’ cheeks have a rosy tint. Covers stained, book cloth warped near spine, some chips and wear to extremities, pencil notation on page 111, rear tintype has vertical line of residue, notes in pencil on front free end paper.
