Description: American psychologist and psychotherapist Albert Ellis (1913-2007) signed this typed letter in which he mentions rational therapy, the behavioral therapy he founded. The message reads in part: “Thank you for your kind comments on the recent reprints I sent you. I am most interested to learn that my articles on rational therapy have already had a significant influence on much of your work. If you would care to hear any recordings of actual sessions with patients, let me know and I shall be glad to send you some tapes.”
Item #A01880
Albert Ellis is generally considered to be one of the originators of the cognitive revolutionary paradigm shift in psychotherapy and an early proponent and developer of cognitive-behavioral therapies. Based on a 1982 professional survey of American and Canadian psychologists, he was considered the second most influential psychotherapist in history (Carl Rogers ranked first in the survey; Sigmund Freud was ranked third). Psychology Today noted that, “No individual—not even Freud himself—has had a greater impact on modern psychotherapy.”
Condition: The letter has been trimmed to: 3 5/8″ x 8 1/2″, cutting off the recipient’s name (but, apparently a fellow psychologist) and the date. Otherwise, very good condition.
