Description: This late 19th century boudoir cabinet photograph shows the magnificent Hotel Kaaterskill (1881-1924). The palatial hotel stood at the summit of South Mountain in the Catskill Mountain range in upstate New York. It could host up to 1,200 guests and was an extremely popular destination for New York City dwellers, as well as, visitors from foreign cities. Two presidents, Ulysses S. Grant and Chester A. Arthur, spent time at the Hotel Kaaterskill. Unfortunately, the hotel burned down in September, 1924 when soap-making employees accidentally started a fire.
Printed beneath the mount: “The Photo Company Hotel Kaaterskill Hunter and Windham, in the Catskills.” Verso has The Photo Company’s backmark. Image measures: 4 1/2″ x 8″. Overall: 5 1/8″ x 8 3/8″. Item #P00181
Condition: Light overall soil and uneven toning. Generally good condition.
