Description
Description: This original early twentieth century photograph showcases a four story building housing manufacturers of glove and leather machinery, H. J. Anthony and W. J. Corey. A line of men stand in front of the building, ostensibly the employees who worked there. Large letters spelling “H. J. Anthony” stand at the very top of the building with additional signs reading “Cutting Dies, Blocks, & Leather Machinery” and “W. J. Corey, Brass-&-Iron Foundry” at lower levels on the facade. An 1898 Gloversville and Johnstown directory lists H. J. Anthony as being located on Cayadutta Street in Gloversville.
7 3/4″ x 9 3/4″ photograph on an 11″ x 14″ mount. Writing on the verso of the mount reads: “Anthony & Son Glove & Mitten Cutting tools Gloversville, NY” and “Property [?] H. J. Ballon Broadalbin N. Y. Lake View Rd. 12025”. Item #P00289
Condition: Mount has minimal edge wear, as well as, a few spots where it appears it may have been matted and tape has removed a layer of paper?, light soil on image. Generally good condition, with decent contrast and resolution.
