Description: Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809-1894) penned this brief letter which reads in part: “I am liable to be detained by an engagement at home on Wednesday, 28 (tomorrow), but if I can look in upon your school it will give me pleasure to pay you a short visit”.
Holmes was one of the Fireside Poets, a group of New England writers that achieved national acclaim and whose works were read aloud by the family fireplace. Other poets in the group include: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Cullen Bryant, John Greenleaf Whittier, and James Russell Lowell.
Written on a 7″ x 4 1/2″ sheet of plain stationery. Item #A01711
