Description

Description: This large, original late 19th century photograph showcases the thrice-peaked, many-windowed facade of the Hudson River Aniline Color Works building that once stood in Greenbush (now Rensselaer, NY). The facility, erected in 1882, was well known for the manufacture of dyes, coal tar, benzene and other chemicals. This building stood until it burned down in 1895.

A. F. Waldbillig is acknowledged as the photographer in period ink at the lower left below the image, “Albany, N.Y.” is written at lower right, and the photo is captioned in a grand, neatly flourished script: “Hudson River Aniline Color Works”.
