Description

Description: We offer an original signed etching by Henry Ziegler. The plate size is 6 ¼” x 4 ¾” on wove paper which measures: 11 ½” x 6 ⅞”. It is signed under the plate in graphite and inscribed with the title “Getting on a Bronc” in the lower margin. On verso there are some loose sketches by Zeigler of a woman in a bonnet. The etching has the energetic mark making for which Ziegler is known. These hurried lines certainly mirror feelings of contained entropy that riding an untrained horse must summon. Item #PR00274.

Henry Ziegler (1889- ?) was born in Sherman, Texas in 1889. He lived most of his life in New York City, but was known for his western compositions in printmaking and oil paint. Ziegler studied with W.R. Leigh and Joseph Pennell.

Condition: There is minor paper loss at the top corners, likely from prior framing and some unobtrusive surface dirt scattered on the paper. The print retains its full margins and is in generally good condition.
