Description: In the fall of 1909, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s “discovery” of the Hudson River and the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton’s successful application of the paddle steamer on the river, a vast celebration was held at various places from New York City to Albany. These four original photographs show various groups of people in attendance at the celebration in Albany, New York.

Two of the photographs show horse-drawn parade floats. According to a sign on one of the floats, the open pavilion-like structure represents the “First Court of Fort Orange and the Village of Beverwyck” and has several people wearing powdered wigs seated on the float. The other photograph shows a float that appears to be in the shape of a church. One can see a group of costumed people peering out of the “church’s” window. A typed note glued to the verso indicates: “The float here pictured represents the First Reformed Church erected in Albany…”

The other two photographs show a group of men dressed as Native Americans, the other has an assemblage of men dressed in 17th century Dutch garb. Behind the Dutch reenactors is a sign that reads: “Holland Hudson Fulton Society of Albany and Vicinity 1909″.

Three of the photographs measure 4 3/8″ x 6 1/4″, the photo with the Dutch group is slightly smaller at 4 3/8″ x 5 7/8”. All images are affixed to 8″ x 10″ mounts. Item #P00328

Condition: Mounts stained, have some chips at extremities. Photos are all in very good condition.
