Description: A marine and landscape artist, Gruppe (1860-1940) spent the first part of his illustrious career living and painting in Holland. After he returned to the U.S., he split his time between New York City and Cape Ann, MA, where he and his son Emile established a studio and painting school. His paintings are in many eminent museums, including the Smithsonian, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Brooklyn Museum.

This halcyon landscape features a beached skiff at a rocky shore with several prominent birch trees. Signed and dated lower left “C Paul Gruppe ’09”. Paper size is 15″ x 21 3/4″. Included is 1911, exhibition catalog from Annesley Gallery in Albany, New York. Item #FA00038.

Condition: Painting has been laid down on paste board, 1″ tear at left margin near signature, otherwise good.
