Description: This original albumen photograph features a seated Sedgwick with a book in his hands/lap. Backmark is of the photographer Ernest Edwards who was active at 20 Baker Street London from 1864-1868.
Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873), British geologist, was one of the founders of modern geology. He proposed the Cambrian and Devonian periods of the geological timescale.
