Description

Description: This black and white 8″ x 10″ photograph of O’Keeffe’s painting From the Plains is boldly signed on the verso: “Georgia O’Keeffe” under a typed note guaranteeing the authenticity of the painting. The note reads: “This is to certify that the work of art reproduced on the other side of this photograph is an original work of art by myself and is titled “From the Plains” and was executed in 1919. It is oil on canvas and measures 23 5/8″ x 27 5/8″. Item #A01998

Accompanying this photo is an entire Andrew Crispo Gallery file of correspondence and retained copies of correspondence relating to provenance, inventory receipts, loan agreements/requests, consignment contracts, transparencies, etc. for the painting From the Plains. Approximately 50 pages.

Andrew Crispo (1945-2024) had a meteoric art world career, laced with scandal, which ultimately led him to jail. Though Crispo was indicted on income tax evasion, he is most notably connected to the “S&M/Death Mask Murder” of a young man in 1985 (Crispo’s assistant did go to jail for that).

Condition: Photograph and signature in fine condition. Other documentation has light soil, folds, etc. Generally very good condition.
