Description: Classic Hollywood film star Anne Baxter (1923-1985) energetically signed this friendly typed letter to a fan on May 22, 1972. It reads in part: “What a delightful idea to reach out to people who, through their various careers, have been a source of pleasure to you!! I am flattered to be among that group!”
Baxter acted in films, on Broadway, and on television. She played the role of Lucy Morgan in Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), and won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Sophie MacDonald in The Razor’s Edge (1946). She was also nominated for another Academy Award in 1951 for playing the titular role in All About Eve. She worked with Hollywood’s greatest directors throughout her career, including Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Cecil B. DeMille, and Fritz Lang.
