Description

Description: This fantastic small archive includes two typed letters signed by O’Keeffe and correspondence with disgraced gallery owner Andrew Crispo.

The exchange of letters and business dealings begins September 29, 1969. O’Keeffe signs a detailed agreement for Crispo’s purchase of her 1926 painting Lake George – Blue for $6,000 for which he has given her a $100 deposit. On October 2nd he writes a letter to her reminding her that he has also given her a $100 deposit on the $40,000 painting White Birches and a $100 deposit on the $50,000 painting Skull and Poinsettias. He objects to her stipulation that should he decide to sell the paintings, “me or my estate [gets] first option to buy… at my selling price to you.”

By December 11th, in a typed letter signed, O’Keeffe agrees to amend her stipulation about the Lake George painting to give her a four year option to buy it back at her price. The other two paintings she decides to keep and encloses Crispo’s two (torn up) deposit checks (included in this grouping).

In total this archive includes two signed O’Keeffe typed letters signed, one unsigned O’Keeffe typed letter, and one Andrew Crispo typed letter signed with a duplicate retained copy, a retained copy of a Crispo letter (Dec. 5), two torn checks signed by Crispo and two transmittal envelopes from O’Keeffe. Item #A01787
