Description: Thomas Dewey inscribed this large portrait photograph to Frank J. Pipito: “With Warm Regards” on January 6, 1949.
The photograph shows a neat and tidy Dewey smiling serenely for the camera. There is a copyright date of 1944 by Greystone Studios in the plate at the lower left of the image. Photo measures: 9 3/8″ x 7 1/8″. Overall: 13 1/2″ x 10 3/8″.
As Governor of New York from 1943-1954, Thomas E. Dewey (1902-1971) oversaw the creation of the State University system and the NYS Thruway. He was unsuccessful in two campaigns as the Republican candidate for President, including the infamous “Dewey Defeats Truman” race of 1948.

Condition: There is a light mark that cuts diagonally across the image going through Dewey’s forehead (probably toning from a cracked glass from original framing), marks in the blank margins. Generally good condition with a bold inscription and signature.
